Mat3ra joined the inaugural Genesis Mission teams in Washington, D.C., after being selected to participate in three Phase I projects from nearly 5,000 submissions nationwide. The Summit brought together 342 institutions across national laboratories, academia, industry, and government to advance AI-enabled scientific discovery. For Mat3ra, the event marked the transition from project selection to active collaboration within the Genesis Mission ecosystem.

Mat3ra participated in the Genesis Mission Summit 2026 in Washington, D.C., joining the inaugural cohort of organizations selected to advance AI-enabled scientific discovery across materials, energy, manufacturing, and national research infrastructure.
The Summit marked an important next step following the official announcement of the first Genesis Mission portfolio. From nearly 5,000 submissions nationwide, the U.S. Department of Energy selected 278 Phase I projects. Mat3ra was chosen to participate in three separate projects, including one under its leadership.

The first Genesis Mission portfolio was selected through a highly competitive national process. Nearly 5,000 submissions were received, with 278 projects chosen for Phase I.
Mat3ra’s selection for three projects places the company among a limited group of organizations contributing across multiple areas of the initiative:
Mat3ra will also lead AlphaFilm, a closed-loop agentic AI effort for semiconductor thin-film materials. The full technical scope of all three selected projects is described in our previous article.

A presentation at the Summit highlighted the scale of the inaugural network: 342 participating institutions working across 21 national science and technology challenges.
The cohort includes:
For Mat3ra, being represented within this national network is significant not only because of the competitiveness of the selection, but also because the company contributes to three distinct projects rather than a single area of work.
This breadth reflects Mat3ra’s ability to connect materials modeling, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, scientific data, and workflow automation within one collaborative research environment.

The Genesis Mission brings together AI, national laboratories, scientific data, high-performance computing, and experimental infrastructure. Mat3ra helps turn these capabilities into practical, reproducible materials R&D workflows.
With offices in the United States and Japan, we are uniquely positioned to build cross-border scientific alliances. At the Summit, Japan’s Ambassador to the United States joined a discussion on international scientific collaboration, highlighting the growing U.S.–Japan partnership in AI-enabled research.
The Mat3ra platform connects materials modeling, cloud HPC, AI-ready data, workflow automation, and collaboration between computational and experimental teams.

Mat3ra’s participation in three Phase I projects reflects the company’s role at the intersection of materials science, artificial intelligence, scientific software, and research infrastructure.
Across the Genesis Mission portfolio, Mat3ra will:
The next stage is focused on implementation: connecting AI models, high-performance computing, scientific data, experimental capabilities, and domain expertise into practical research workflows.
Mat3ra’s contribution is to make these capabilities accessible and reproducible for scientists working with real materials, including thin films, surfaces, interfaces, defects, and other complex systems.
The Summit marked the beginning of this collaborative work and the transition from selected projects to active scientific development.
